Hemorrhoids and Piles Treatment
Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins located in the anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. They can occur internally within the rectum or externally around the anal area. Hemorrhoids are a common condition, affecting nearly three out of four adults at some point in their lives, and the exact cause is often unknown.
Fortunately, there are effective treatment options available for hemorrhoids. Many people find relief through home remedies and lifestyle changes. The symptoms of hemorrhoids depend on the type of hemorrhoid.
External hemorrhoids are located under the skin around the anus and may cause itching, irritation, pain or discomfort, swelling, and bleeding.
Internal hemorrhoids are situated inside the rectum and are typically not visible or felt. They usually do not cause any discomfort, but straining or irritation during bowel movements can result in painless bleeding. In some cases, internal hemorrhoids can protrude from the anal opening, causing pain and irritation.
Thrombosed hemorrhoids occur when a blood clot forms in an external hemorrhoid. This can lead to severe pain, swelling, inflammation, and the presence of a hard lump near the anus.
It is important to consult a doctor if you experience bleeding during bowel movements or if your hemorrhoids do not improve after a week of home care. Rectal bleeding should not be assumed to be caused by hemorrhoids, especially if there are changes in bowel habits, or if stool color or consistency changes. Rectal bleeding can be associated with other conditions, including colorectal cancer and anal cancer.
If you have large amounts of rectal bleeding, along with symptoms such as lightheadedness, dizziness, or faintness, it is advised to seek emergency medical care.
